She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica
Meghan is a single parent. She works as a full time nurse. Being a full time care giver and also being as present and involved as possible in her daughter's life.
One day, a patient named Caitlin arrives at the hospital in a state of coma and multiple injuries. It is surprising that she was even alive. She had supposedly jumped off the bridge onto the train tracks. Did she jump off or was she pushed?
Someone has been constantly wanting to meet her but Caitlin's parents had strict restriction from anybody meeting her. Meghan notices this person and over the course of the story comes to know of some horrifying details about Caitlin and the accident.
On the other side of Meghan's life, many things are not going the way she would have liked to. Her recently divorced husband Ben has been visiting her to ignite old sparks. Then there is her teenage daughter who is behaving brashly after receiving some information that she should not have been privy to. Will this information add the avoidable fuel to the fire? During this time, Meghan also bumps into a school friend Natalie who was going through domestic abuse. Meghan tries to help her out but soon she comes to know of her true colours. And there is Luke, Meghan's close friend and colleague, who has been in the radar of the police for some nefarious activities.
With so much going on, is Meghan able to keep her head on her shoulders? You will doubt every character and everyone seems to be responsible for something going wrong.
I found the first part of the book a little dragging. I kept wondering where the story was going until things dawned on me. Im not sorry that She's Not Sorry! But, I did some shivers down my spine as I recognized traits that resembled mine and I didn't like them much - I have the tendency to over help sometimes and maybe that is not as good as it seems to be. Listen to this book, narrated by Andi Arndt as you get along the week.
