The Married Man by K L Slater
Liv has a little boy, Maddox to take care of and a mother in law, who was currently battling dementia. Her husband, Rich disappeared into thin hilly air, quite literally one day, eleven years ago. Search rescues tried looking for him, but in vain. Four years ago he was declared dead as his body or whereabouts could not be found. Liv and Maddox are struggling by but Liv has been telling her son that soon their luck was going to change.
In a parallel life, there is Kate/Kait who is supposedly pregnant and married to a fitness trainer, Daniel. Daniel had been acting strange lately; he goes out odd hours to meet clients and stuff like that. Kate/Kait is not taking all this well.
A lot of things are happening in Liv's and Kate's life, unknown to each other.
But, one day, Kate has come to meet Liv. Kate has a feeling that her husband Daniel was having an affair with Liv. Why else would Daniel have Maddox's school ID number written and kept in this wallet? Are Daniel and Rich connected? Is Kate's doubt valid?
This book is tangled and confusing. I am not exactly sure what I was listening to. I had invested my time and I did not want to DNF it. I have read K L Slater before, but this book confused me to the hilt. I could not decide if this was some psychological story or one of fraud and deceit or was it some murder mystery or a drug racket. Rich gone missing seemed like the main plot...but it took way to long to understand what really had happened. Over-secrecy killed the suspense!
The story did get tied together at the end. I try not to be critical about an author's work, but I was glad the book was over.
