The Promise by Katerina Diamond
I like DS Imogen Grey & Adrian Miles. I like the way Katerina Diamond weaves everybody into her stories, giving due credit to everyone's lives. Making story telling so much more realistic.
The Promise is the 4th book if you want to read it in order. It can be read or listened to as a stand alone as well. Character build up would be better if we read it in the series though.
So Imogen and Adrian - trustworthy partners, team players, and friends are now on the hunt for what looks like a serial killer. The killer, befriends people online and then over time kills them in cold blood. Catfishing is a serious crime. A person creates a fake identity to trick young, beautiful, vulnerable, innocent women. They gain the victim's trust and then resort to blackmail, financial gain or harmful purposes. This concept hit very close to home as we are in a world of doing everything virtually.
In a parallel timeline, we have Connor, a young boy, along with his father, has moved to the UK from California to start life afresh. Connor's father is a difficult man and often hits up the boy mercilessly for reasons best known to him. He's bitter and he's bad. Connor somehow, through all his gashes, bruises and grievances, pulls along life. He tries his best to fit in but obviously its going to be a lot of effort.
And then a catfishing victim manages to survive. She opens up about the murderer. There but not there yet. What is the connection between the killer and Connor's life? Do Imogen and Adrian manage to nab the killer?
What's going on really in Exeter, Uk?
I like the storyline. I like the narrator. I like Imogen and Adrian. I quite like the premise.
To know more, you must pick up the book and get hooked to the audio version.
