Buri Nazar - An Audible Original

It has taken me ages to get used to listening to stories than reading it. When I subscribed for Audible, I wasn't sure I would do justice. I haven't regretted it one bit. Audible India has some fantastic enactments part of the listening list. One such was Buri Nazar. Fantastic star cast narration.

Usha (Supriya Pathak Kapur) is a typical mummy. Constantly worrying about her daughter Pallavi (Sayani Gupta) who lives in the US of A and is a lecturer at the University. Usha never tires to find suitable grooms for Pallavi, who just wont like anybody and the prospective fellows are either boring or too egoistic or having some flaw or the other. When every prayer to the almighty fails, mothers are convinced that a bad omen has struck the fate of their precious child(ren) and hence things are never falling into place. It wasn't any different with Usha. She was convinced that a dark shadow, a bad omen was ensuring Pallavi's life remained unsettled.

All is taken in good spirit but it has surely somewhere broken Pallavi's confidence in herself. But, being career oriented and smart and intelligent, Pallavi does not give up. One day, she meets Sandeep (Rithvik Dhanjani) by chance. Sandeep is everything she would want a good boyfriend to be, or a prospective husband to be. He is loving, caring and supportive. He is everything a girl can dream of. It was time to announce the relationship to her parents. Pallavi informs Usha of her choice and how wonderful Sandeep is. Usha is quite taken aback that all this while Pallavi disapproved of every alliance possible and then she found someone so perfect so suddenly! How could that be possible?!

Pallavi is confused and lashes out at her mother that when things were not going right, her mother was sad and upset. Now things were being set right and all was going according to plan and yet her mother was unhappy. Could her mother ever be happy with anything at all? All attempts to understand her mother's predicament failed miserably. Usha was unable to be convinced that Sandeep truly meant to be in Pallavi's life. Usha is moved to paranoia when she seeks out for Sandeep's horoscope and shows it to her pandit ji, who approves it with no doubt whatsoever. Pallavi's lashing out at her mother was justified and relatable. I imagined the whole scene right in front of my eyes!

What follows is amazing and shocking. Does Usha approve of Sandeep? Was Pallavi able to understand why her mother was being so unreasonable? Was Sandeep really who he said he was? Was there really something wrong in this whole arrangement? For all these answers, you must listen to this amazing 6-episode enactment. Just brilliant.
