The Lonely Hearts Travel Club - Thailand, India, Chile by Katy Colins
~Travel not to find yourself; but to remember who you've been all along.~
Travel is the most wonderful thing I have discovered and nurtured. The best memories on my travel are the moments that I always go back to fondly. When I found the Katy Colins' series - The Lonely Hearts Travel Club, I did not think twice before acquiring them.
This is a 3-book series Destination Thailand, Destination India, Destination Chile, currently and I am hoping the author writes more. Her story telling is fresh and simple. Just what you need for a cloudy evening with a cup of tea.
Destination Thailand - Georgia is a jilted bride. Her fiancé had called off the wedding. She is lost and broken and totally confused of what she needs to do in her life. All one needs in a travel story, is a bestie. Georgia's bestie - Marie coaxes Georgia to rethink and reorganize her life. Before long, Georgia takes off to Thailand and spends her vacation crying and thinking what really went wrong in her grand plans about life and marriage. She is not much of a travel person. But travel does open doors to many an adventure. After many hits and misses Georgia seems to be actually settling in. Many readers have pointed out that Georgia's character was a little too gullible. But, there are people who are like that and it is not wrong to be so. Overall this is an easy read and a happy one at that.
Destination India - Georgia now runs a very successful travel company. It is a different matter when you are just a traveler or an employee working at a travel company. But, it is a whole different game when you are the owner of a travel company and keep the business running and making it a success. All is well until she wants to get into the depths of what is working and not working in her travel company. Georgia is upset about the feedback she has received from her travelers and wanted to know first hand, what her customers feel about the organization skills of her travel company and hence, disguises herself as a fellow traveler to one such destination. Destination India! There are some funny moments, but a lot of Indian readers felt that the India that is mentioned in this story was a cliched outlook of the place and India is truly a great melting pot of various things to experience. Giving benefit to dramatic license, this is a good read as well.
Destination Chile - Georgia and Ben are a thing now. They started off as colleagues and with time, it only worked wonders for themselves. In this series of the book, a television show wants to showcase the travel company owned by successful couples. The show is required to have the participants travel to Chile and win a whooping sum of prize money. It is difficult to keep sequels constantly successful as hope and expectations always go up a notch when the first in the series was a good read. Katy Colins does do a good job but the storyline is surely getting tired. Overall Destination Chile does not disappoint.
Hoping to see yet another destination in the making. Till then, these three should whet the appetite for travel in difficult times such as these.
